The silky shark is a Pelagic species which is found in tropical to subtropical
waters in the Atlantic, Indian and Pacic Oceans on continental shelves
where food is abundant.
They have been recorded at depths of up to 4000m. The upper jaw teeth are
diagonally triangular in shape with large serrations on both sides, the tooth
in this collection is from the lower jaw, where teeth are long, slender and
pointy with no serrations.
Silky sharks feed mainly on bony shes from all depths and are recorded to
grow to 2.4m (7.9ft) long. This species has been implicated in only a few
